Are clear aligners as good as braces?
All of our orthodontic treatments work! Whether or not clear aligners are a good choice for you all depends on the position of your teeth and the extent of your bite misalignment. Clear aligners are a series of invisible, removable acrylic trays that fit over your teeth, gently moving them into the right position.
Can clear aligners cause cavities?
Clear aligners, like all other types of braces, do not cause cavities. But since clear aligners are removable, it can be easier to keep your mouth clean and prevent tooth decay and cavities than with metal braces. Throughout any orthodontic treatment, you will need to practice good oral hygiene every day and keep up with your routine dental cleanings and exams.
When can I get clear aligners?
Usually, it’s best to hold off on orthodontics until all your adult teeth have erupted. Although some systems allow treatment to begin as young as age 7, most patients can start wearing clear aligners in their early teens. Dr. Maltsberger is well-versed in modern orthodontics. He can closely monitor your child’s dental development so treatment can begin at the most appropriate time.
